Who Can Draw a Lease Plan?
There is no single licensed profession for lease plans, but they must meet HM Land Registry standards. Here is who is qualified to prepare one — and who is not.

No single licensed profession
HM Land Registry does not require a lease plan to be drawn by a member of a particular profession. In principle anyone can prepare one. In practice, the plan must meet detailed standards, so it should be produced by someone who understands those standards thoroughly.
Who typically prepares lease plans
Lease plans are usually produced by specialist lease plan companies, chartered surveyors, or experienced CAD drafters working to the Registry’s practice guides. These providers combine accurate measurement with correct presentation — scale, red edging, colouring, north point and an OS location plan.
A specialist also knows the common pitfalls that cause requisitions, and produces plans designed to be accepted first time.
Why DIY and marketing plans fall short
Homeowners sometimes try to repurpose an estate agent’s floor plan or sketch their own. These almost always fail because they lack accurate scale, an OS location plan and correct colouring. A rejected plan costs more in delay than a professional plan costs to produce.
